Clearing Up A Couple of Questions....

Good morning! Based on a couple of parent questions, I wanted to post a couple of tips to help things go smoothly for students.

1) On the main web page, please look on the left side menu choice to select the item for the week's activities.

2) You do NOT have to log in to the web page. You also do not have to request membership. This is a special web page called a wiki. It allows Mrs. Hovorka and I great flexibility to work together from different computers to set up activities. However, to students, it is just a web page with links. On the week's activity page, you will find links to Study Island (where you will have to log in) and to Discovery activities , which asks for a name (use your Study Island name) but those are the only places to log in.

3) Summer Skills is designed for students to have independent practice in material they have already mastered. The idea is to just keep student's skills fresh with a little bit of a review in a variety of curriculum over the summer. Hopefully, that will lessen the start up time to get going full steam with new work when school returns in September. So, you will see work in Study Island that you have "already done" during the last school year. I did have a choice when we formed the Summer Skills classes. I could have reset everybody's hard earned Blue Ribbons from last year and made you guys earn everything all over again. I thought that that would be unkind, and really unnecessary. What Mrs. Hovorka and I decided to do was to raise the passing level to get a Blue Ribbon. You may have noticed that right now it is just under 80% to pass, while for most classes it was 70% in the school year. And since you are so kind to read the blog, here is a bit of news, after Week 3, we will move Study Island's passing level to just over 85% for the last three weeks!

In other news we had 10 students working in Study Island yesterday and a couple more taking (and passing) the quiz on the Discovery Science and there are a few new books on the Shelfari bookshelf! Keep them coming!

Also, there is a new poll for you to take on the side of the blog.

You guys are great, keep on working!
